I
have chosen to look at Surrealism for my exam question, looking into
different aspects of it as well as looking into other artist’s work
and photography. (See Spider Diagram for plans).

The
initial image that inspired me when looking at this topic is by
Madoz. (See image 1).

It
interested me, as it portrays two everyday objects, a ladder and a
mirror, and creates a sense of a path to a parallel world. After
looking into this artist, I then emulated my own image, similar to
this one (Image 2).

I
also researched into others like Michaels and Ingberg, again
developing my own images, similar to theirs. My favourite photograph
so far that I’ve created is my take on a photograph of McBean's
(Image 3 and 4).

I
used Photoshop to change the proportions of the model as well as the
setting.
When
researching into surrealist photographers, although I did like their
work, a lot of them used very simple ideas with complex techniques,
for example Uelsmann in the darkroom when he was unable to use photo
manipulation software (Image 5).

I
found that when doing this project, I will probably be much more
inclined to look at modern, more everyday surreal photographs.
On
the next step of my project, I will most likely go on to look at
either slightly strange/ironic, things happening in everyday life or
at nature and fantasy and how something normal can be turned into
something surreal.
